What is Therapy?
Counselling, Psychotherapy & EMDR in Northampton
A Safe Space for Healing and Growth
Therapy is a safe, confidential, and supportive space where you can explore life’s challenges, past experiences, and present concerns with a trained professional. At Beth McCay Psychotherapy, I provide a warm and boundaried environment where you can feel heard, understood, and respected.
How Does Therapy Work?
Therapy is a collaborative process. We meet regularly — often weekly — to explore what’s happening in your life, past and present. Sessions are guided by your needs and at your pace. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to support you in developing insight, resilience, and new ways of coping.
Do I Have a Choice in Therapy?
Yes. Therapy is always a choice, and you remain in control of what you share and the direction we take. Together, we will decide the best approach for you.
Approaches I Use
I am a BACP-accredited psychotherapist who works in a person-centred and trauma-informed way, integrating a range of evidence-based approaches including:
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) – understanding and reshaping unhelpful thoughts and behaviours
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) – highly effective for trauma and PTSD
Trauma-focused psychotherapy – supporting healing from difficult past experiences
Why Choose Therapy?
A place to explore life’s challenges safely
An opportunity to develop self-awareness and personal growth
A pathway to heal from past traumas and rebuild your life
Support for issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and relationship difficulties
